FAQ

Is ROI the same as profit?

No. Profit is the dollar amount, ROI is that amount relative to what you invested. A $300 profit on $500 is 60% ROI, but the same $300 on $30,000 is 1%.

Does ROI account for time?

No, and that is its weakness. 60% in a month and 60% in five years are the same ROI. For time-aware numbers use the compound or retirement tools.

Can ROI be negative?

Yes. If current value is below cost, ROI is negative and shows the percent of your investment currently lost.
