How it works
rewards = stake × APR × uptime
net = rewards × ETH price − hosting
Worked example
A validator at 3.4% with 99% uptime earns 1.077 ETH yearly. At $3,200 minus $120 hosting that is $3,326, a 3.25% net. Two days of downtime costs more than fancy hardware saves.
FAQ
What actually gets validators slashed?
Running the same key in two places is the classic. Simple downtime just leaks small penalties; double-signing is the capital offense.
Solo or pooled staking?
Solo keeps the full reward and full responsibility. Pools take a cut and remove ops burden. The APR gap is the price of sleep.
